Understanding Mental Capacity Webinar Overview from 26 March 2026

Lucy Kennerley • March 30, 2026

Thank You for Joining Us

Thank you to everyone who joined our Understanding Mental Capacity for Young People with SEND webinar last night. We were delighted to welcome so many parents and carers wanting to build confidence around decision‑making as their young people move toward adulthood.

During the session, Kevin McManamon, Partner at Winckworth Sherwood LLP, guided us through the key principles of the Mental Capacity Act and explained how capacity is assessed for different types of decisions. He also outlined the roles of the Court of Protection, the differences between Deputyships and Lasting Powers of Attorney, and how mental capacity issues can arise in the SEND Tribunal.

Kevin’s insights — drawn from nearly 20 years of representing children and young people with SEND — helped bring clarity to what can often feel like a complex and overwhelming topic.

We hope you found the session useful and reassuring.
