🌟 SEND Services Update – CWaC SEND Newsletter 🌟

The latest Cheshire West and Chester Council SEND Newsletter is out, and there are some updates from Amanda Perraton, the new Executive Director for Children and Families!

✅ More specialist staff to support children in schools

✅ EHCP processing improvements – faster and more efficient

✅ New SEND Partnership Board to strengthen collaboration

✅ Parent Carer Forum (PCF) working in partnership with the council to shape services

These roles aim to help children access support earlier, ensure schools feel confident in meeting a range of needs, and improve the overall experience for families.

The real test will be how these changes feel to families and schools. Ongoing conversations between parents, carers, and professionals will be key to making sure these new roles have the impact we all hope for.

One key area of progress is EHCP processing. In August 2024, there were 300 overdue EHCPs—now, only 41 remain. This is a significant improvement, and with more specialist staff in place, the aim is to ensure plans are not only completed on time but also truly reflect each child’s needs. That’s why ongoing communication between families, caseworkers, and schools remains essential. By sharing experiences—both positive and where things could be better—we can help shape improvements that benefit all children.

Another major development is the introduction of the SEND Partnership Board, which will strengthen accountability across education, health, and social care. We are pleased to welcome Edwina Grant, a nationally recognised SEND leader, as the independent chair. This is a fantastic step towards ensuring families, schools, and services work together effectively to deliver real improvements.

Working Together for Positive Change

This newsletter reflects real progress, with a clear commitment to improving SEND services. By increasing specialist support, making EHCP processes more efficient, and strengthening co-production, there are real opportunities for families and professionals to continue working together.

So, how can we keep shaping services?

📢 Keep sharing your experiences – whether things are working well or need improvement, feedback helps shape the system.

🤝 Engage with the Parent Carer Forum – the PCF is a key link between families and decision-makers.

📚 Stay informed – as services develop, staying up to date ensures we can all make the most of what’s available.

With a shared commitment to inclusion and support, we can continue to build a SEND system that works for everyone.
